New Nike in Store Saturday 12.19.09.Nike has teamed up with Wood Wood to take on lightweight and protection. The end result of this partnership is the Lunar Wood TZ, a lightweight and comfortable shoe that can keep you dry during the frigid and wet winter.

The design team utilized Nike Running’s innovative Lunarlite material with Dynamic Support technology to provide an extremely lightweight cushioning system with maximum traction. Jesse Leyva, Nike Sportswear Footwear Design Director adds “For the upper, we took design cues from the original Wildwood Trail shoe and employed a rubberized mudguard along with ripstop nylon to keep feet protected despite harsh outdoor conditions.”

Taking inspiration from Scandinavia’s harsh winter weather, designers at Wood Wood and Nike wanted to make this versatile running shoe that combines ultimate protection with an amazing street-friendly look. “We worked with the Nike design team on color selection, material variations and unique graphics to provide winterized protection against the elements. Whereas the original Nike Wildwood was made mostly for the purpose of running in nature, this project is more about the city. We wanted to bring the shoe into an urban environment. The Lunar Wood TZ is made for the cold and wet Scandinavian nights. Inspiration comes from the world of graffiti and going on these nocturnal expeditions, the empty streets, tunnels, abandoned buildings, and jumping fences,’’ said Brian SS Jensen at Wood Wood alive. The shoe has been beautifully curated with some creative design details. The shoe tongue embroiders Nike Wildwood’s ACG triangle logo with a crescent moon to keep the outdoor spirit. The bright yellow signature “W.W.” is boldly placed only on the left shoe heel. A unique graphic of full moon to eclipse sits on the sockliners.

To further keep feet warm and dry, P2i, Ltd.’s Ionmask™ technology was added by applying a nanoscopic protective polymer layer to the whole shoe, which allows water to form beads and simply roll off, instead of being fully absorbed into the shoe. Ionmask™ gives the shoe, stitching included, a superior water repellence. Shoes dry out quickly and won’t get heavier over time, while maintaining the natural airflow of their constructed material.

Introducing the LIVESTRONG x UNDFTD NIKE AIR FORCE 1.Eddie Cruz and UNDFTD have held a strong position in sneaker, style, and sport culture on the West Coast. Having worked with Nike in the past, Cruz and Nike Sportswear have partnered together to rework the iconic Air Force 1. This new shoe follows the ‘Artist Series’ collection that was released in the Summer of 2009, and uses the LIVESTRONG foundation as inspiration for its’ design.

Digging into the archives, this release has a comparable feel to the Nike x UNDFTD Air Force 1 from 2006. Today, this shoe incorporates the black and yellow pallet of colors which are so well associated with LIVESTRONG and the fight against cancer. More notable design assets referring back to the previous launch include the ‘Shemagh’ textile used on the front half of the sneaker as well as the ‘ONYABIKEKID’ slogan, which replaces the ‘ONYAFEETKID’, a theme that refers to the origin of UNDFTD.

The sentiment and meaning of this AF1 runs deeper for Eddie Cruz, whom recently suffered a serious personal illness. Creating this shoe with the intention of raising awareness for a good cause was extra motivation and the outcome goes beyond the world of sneakers and sport. “I support LIVESTRONG and Lance Armstrong. He was one of the first people to send me a message of support when I got my brain tumor," said Cruz. "Lance told me to stay strong."

As part of the Nike Sportswear x LIVESTRONG Collection, 100% of the proceeds of this shoe benefit The Lance Armstrong Foundation.

Four years ago, Nike’s Innovation Kitchen was given a new mission: Develop a 21st century boot to meet the needs of this century’s first-response teams and high-speed operators – aka elite level athletes in need of elite level performance innovation.

The SFB represents Nike’s continued pursuit of delivering the most technically innovative and lightweight product to meet the needs of athletes the world over.

The SFB, perfect for warm weather conditions, is the lightest, fastest drying, natural motion boot on the planet. It features a Natural Motion Cushioning unit that helps allows for optimal support and speed during heel to toe transfer, translated the boot is made to move and form with the foot’s natural motion allowing for quick flexible movement in any direction while drastically reducing the weight of conventional boots.

Offering unparalleled traction, the SFB’s outsole is fitted with a directional traction heel sole that utilizes reverse tread bars and a slightly raised heel for better traction going downhill, while the Sticky Rubber forefoot lugs were strategically placed to allow exceptional agility and traction in any terrain. Upping the ante on protection, the SFB’s mid-sole comes equipped with puncture and laceration resistant thermoplastic forefoot shield and genuine leather with Kevlar sheath, both placed in the sole of the SFB allowing the boot to form to the foot of its wearer while offering protection from jagged rocky terrain.

Highly protective while light and flexible, the SFB’s upper is comprised of a polyester woven shell wrapped in synthetic leather overlays which offers no “break-in” time associated with most other boots and drastically increased the quick drying properties via the polyester/synthetic leather blend. The no “break-in” properties alone make the SFB a natural choice for serious outdoors athletes and weekend warriors alike. Tying it all together, a Speed Lacing System made of 550 cord run through metal speed-lacing eyelets keep the foot securely locked down to the Natural Motion Cushioning unit while also making the SFB easy to get in or out of. The zipping element comes as an extra and can be added and removed from the boot when needed.

Simply put, this boot was built for comfort, speed, agility, and it was built to last.
