Underneath the Nike Air Force 1 – Year of the Dragon’s simple design of black upper and white sole, there are layers of symbolism at work. Its black textile upper is a direct reference to the traditional Chinese Silk Robe (though a few Chinese sites also suggested the Amur River, locally known as the “Black Dragon River”). Discretely embroidered within are dragons and clouds, much like the patterns you’ll find on emperor’s dragon robe. Embroidered on the heel panel, the word “dragon” in old Chinese script, another referral to the ancient culture. Finally, the “XXX” designation on the lace-lock in front, marking the all-important 30th anniversary when Nike made the first Air Force 1s.

In addition to the footwear commemorating the upcoming Year of the Dragon, Nike has thrown in its flagship Destroyer Jacket into the mix. The classically styled varsity is built with a black wool body and black leather sleeves, and like the matching Air Force 1s, features vivid artwork at the interior: a stylized dragon and cloud design floats above blue waves. Additional details include an appliqué patch on the left sleeve and embroidered dragon claws at the back.

Converse First String is a limited-edition collection that celebrates craftsmanship, authenticity and collaboration at the highest level. It is in that spirit that they launch the all-new José Parlá for Converse (PRODUCT)RED Chuck Taylor All Star shoe for World Aids Day 12.1.11.

Internationally renowned, José Parlá is widely known for his distinctive abstract process that blends calligraphy, collage, textures, and color to create paintings dealing with themes such as psycho-geography, urbanization, wall decay, names, personal diaries, current events, and political divisions. His paintings are symbols that depict the memory of a place, an observation, the mood of an experience, or a shared story of passing through cities around the world.
Using the Chuck Taylor All Star shoe as the canvas, Parlá’s painting "Ephemeral Pitches, and Notes, Rhythm and Phonetics" graces the shoe’s upper. Using an extremely high-tech laser printing technique, Parlá’s work is immaculate and vivid with a carefully color-matched representation of the original piece in natural tones of tan, yellow and grey. Additionally, subtly placed in the shoe’s interior, Parlá’s signature can be found on the shoe’s footbed as well as a repeat calligraphy pattern along the shoe’s lining. The shoe’s outsole also receives a unique painted treatment, giving nod to the artist at work in his studio. High-level construction throughout, the shoe’s design is completed with 100% organic cotton natural color laces and the signature Converse (PRODUCT)RED top eyelet.

adidas Originals' Consortium New in Store Saturday 11.26.11.

The Darkside Initiative proudly announces their partnership with adidas Originals' Consortium.

After a brief hiatus, adidas Originals' Consortium returns with an impressive revival inspired by the Latin term, "Tabula Rasa" (meaning “blank slate”), giving Consortium a new beginning and future. In reestablishing Consortium, adidas Originals strips back to basics with a palette of natural white tones finished in premium materials, creating a perfect blank canvas for the new Consortium program.

With a mind to set the clock back to zero, adidas Originals reached into its archives for classic silhouettes, namely the Pro Shell, Decade, ZX 500, Matchplay and BC, and reissued these in authentic one-to-one interpretations. Shoes and materials have been kept raw and natural, as authentic and close to their original predecessors as possible.

In addition to stripping the collection of colours to give Consortium a fresh start and clean departure from the past, adidas Originals also paid meticulous attention to artistry and quality of materials. Premium leathers are consistent across all silhouettes with generous use of super-soft suede, nubuck and pigskin.

All of the collection features the same waxed laces, metal lace tips, embossed sockliner, suede tongue and thick threading that gives the entire range a superior handcrafted feel. Leather has been intentionally left unfinished and the interiors are unlined to expose the impeccable construction of the uppers. The tongue houses a fabric loop tag secured by an eyelet, adding a touch of subtle detailing that will be featured in all future Consortium offerings.

From the shedding of colors to the raw, unfinished leather, adidas Originals translated the idea of "Tabula Rasa" into FW11 Consortium, letting the assured and unadorned collection serve as a canvas for new things to come.

Matchplay

A classic tennis shoe and occasionally known as the Arthur Ashe signature model, the Matchplay’s aesthetic has always been about understated elegance.

For Consortium FW11, the Matchplay is pared down further; the minimalist silhouette features full premium nubuck upper in a natural white tone, as well as a pimple outsole.


BC Detail

BC
The BC is a lesser-known shoe from the adidas archives, its name deriving from the most important handball tournament held between 1968 and 1989: the Baltic Cup. Built for the courts, the original was released in the early ‘70s but it was during the ‘80s that the model really took off.
Reissued for the first time in this season’s Consortium, the BC’s upper is predominately made of pigskin, while the serrated 3-stripes and heel tab feature soft supple leather. More serrated patterning is featured around the entire midsole, while mini Trefoil motifs cover the outsole, reflecting the classic BC archive.

ZX 500

ZX 500
Arguably one of the most advanced running shoes at its time of release, the ZX 500 has been a much-loved style from the get go. Since its release in the early ‘80s, a tremendously wide range of colourways have been created.

Stripping it right back to the original construction and shape, Consortium FW11 has given the shoe a neat and classic upgrade. The sneaker is made with a blend of materials, including pigskin suede, super soft leather and nylon mesh, resulting in a very subtle range of textures and tones. The Ghillie lacing system also gives it a special twist, a quintessential characteristic of this smart runner’s shoe.

Possibly one of the most recognizable designs in footwear, the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star shoe was the natural collaboration choice for London-based retail store The Hideout. The Hideout, which champions a refined approach to basics, embraced the Chuck Taylor All Star shoe as an icon of minimal, clean, utilitarian design and chose to emphasize and enhance those elements with subtle details. The result are three all-new, stylish versions of the shoe with two low-tops in heavy duty duck canvas and a high-top in suede. Each feature thoughtful details like triple-needle fabrication that make the shoes more rugged, yet still true to the original design. The triple-stitch detail also evokes quality work-wear and utilitarian clothing, echoing Hideout’s principle of featuring only utility-styled goods. Other details include contrasting canvas heel stripes with stitched leather overlay detailing. Rounding out the design, the shoes look extra crisp and fresh with their clean white soles and a black license plate logo on the heel.

With deep roots in American style and culture, the Schott NYC jacket and the Chuck Taylor All Star shoe have led somewhat parallel lives. Converse began in 1908 and Schott in 1913 and as the part of the 20th Century unfolded, Chuck Taylor All Star shoes were unveiled and quickly became nearly ubiquitous in American life. Not long before Chuck Taylor added his name to the already then famous All Star shoe, in 1928, Schott unveiled the first motorcycle jacket ever. Named the “Perfecto”, by the 1950s, the jacket had become a symbol of the new rebellion that was taking hold with the burgeoning teen culture that arose after the War.

A perfect collaboration and combination, Converse takes the original motorcycle jacket and fuses its design with the original Chuck Taylor All Star shoe. The result is a playful yet masculine shoe, with a rugged look that showcases the best of both including heavy-duty rear zip entry, zips under the laces and a patchwork of motorcycle jacket in white leather. The shoe comes complete with a quilted lining; snaps on the tongue and a leather rand with a clean and sharp emboss detail. The Schott label is sewn discreetly inside the shoe and the classic. Chuck Taylor All Star patch is elegantly embossed in the leather and rests in its familiar inside ankle position.

With 200 pairs in the US, this is the most limited of the 3 colors that have been released.
