adidas Consortium Stan Smith Primeknit REFLECTIVE

Late night barbecues, watching the sunset, cycling to a party, walking home in the early morning hours – we all like to spend as much time outside as possible during those warm summer months. With the Primeknit version of the iconic Stan Smith, premiered in 2014, adidas has introduced a perfect lightweight option for this time of the year. Catering to the night owls amongst us, the newest iteration comes equipped with a simple yet highly effective safety feature. At first sight the knit upper appears unchanged to the original Primeknit Stan Smith, however, once light hits the shoe's back, its characteristic heel tab flashes up due the use of a reflective silver yarn incorporated into the construction there. Due to the narrow straight eyelets the flat cotton laces – tonal on both variations – are kept permanently tidy, a minor yet crucial detail that adds to the inherently clean aesthetic. No Stan Smith would be complete without the signature tongue label. Underlining its high-visibility properties, this Primeknit version received its identity badge in reflective ink.
With the Stan Smith Primeknit REFLECTIVE, adidas provides fans of the shoe with a welcome addition to previous executions, for people who have just discovered their love for this legendary style it truly offers a great 'first experience'.

adidas Consortium EQT Support 93.
The adidas EQT line is significant for its cult classic status as well as its impact on a brand’s entire strategy. Created as a response to a troubling time for adidas in the late 1980s, adidas Equipment was a complete reassessment of the company’s DNA — from looks to logo to colours — yet it still took things back to the essence and stayed true to Adi Dassler’s design principles of purity and sportswear as a tool in empowering the athlete.
Uniting adidas design veterans and some new arrivals who were keen to shake up the status quo, adidas EQT line is a chapter in sport footwear history that helped steer the company’s fortunes back on track again. With so much emphasis on creating defiantly new designs (“The best of adidas”) the zero-compromise styles
that involved the running, basketball, tennis and hiking categories have become sought-after collectibles.
Coincidentally, the dawn of adidas EQT line coincided with a post Berlin Wall East German consumer adopting the line as a symbol of affluence to create desire for the product that still resonates today. This defiantly progressive performance output would set a chain in motion that would end with adidas introducing the Originals line to define old and brand new creations. Ambitious from the very beginning, adidas EQT line is an initiative with some stories to tell.

adidas Consortium Stan Smith Y’s
Stan Smith has sprung back into the limelight. Following Consortium’s Stan Smith Materials pack - which adhered to the original colour combination of white and fairway green - adidas now joins forces with five of Asia’s influential designers. From streetwear to product designers, each adds their distinct reinterpretation of the iconic silhouette for SS14’s Consortium Stan Smith Collaboration Pack.
Avant-garde fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto has had a successful partnership with adidas for over a decade with sportswear label Y-3 and now brings his unique viewpoint under his Y’s line for this version, the Stan Smith Y’s. The bones of the original shoe are there - that is, the sleek, simple silhouette - but that’s where the similarities end. Yamamoto’s version is executed in several materials; thick navy canvas on the lateral and medial quarters; grey suede accents on the eyestay and heel tab; and white smooth leather on the toe box and tongue. Hand-stitched style zig-zag embroidery replaces the original perforated 3-Stripes, with threads overhanging the midsole, enabling them to fray over time. A Stan Smith callout and trefoil sit debossed on the heel, whilst an oversized Y’s logo lives on the tongue.

Tokyo-based, high-end streetwear label Neighborhood, founded by Shinsuke Takizawa, brings an enthusiasm for motorcycle culture to his version, the Stan Smith NBHD, with a skull and crossbones logo across the toe cap and on the tongue. A utilitarian feel is also present, with the smooth, all-over brown leather upper and lettering and numbering used on the heel tab. Keeping it tonal is a sumptuously soft taupe leather lining and cream colored midsole, which features the adidas call-out and trefoil, typically used on the model.

Luxury streetwear label mastermind JAPAN is no stranger to the adidas family, having collaborated with Consortium in the past. They use their signature jet-black color palette on the Stan Smith and play with intricate and interesting texture. Most of the upper features a tiny laser-cut criss-cross pattern whilst the toe box, tongue and heeltab are kept in smooth leather. The mastermind JAPAN’s skull and crossbones logo, a heavily used feature on most of the label’s apparel and footwear, can be found embossed in silver on the tongue, and debossed on the heel tab. Thick black stitching contrasts against a white midsole to culminate in a sleek and simple shoe with definite streetwise attitude.

Adidas Consortium Stan Smith CLOT

With the legendary Stan Smith shoe back on rotation, and following Consortium’s initial original colourway release pack, adidas has teamed up with five designers - all hailing from Asia - to give their unique update to the iconic silhouette.
Hong Kong’s CLOT is made up of childhood friends Kevin Poon and Edison Chen, whose brand encompasses music, fashion, design and PR services. Their streetwear designs have garnered them solid success, not to mention a number of collaborations with high-profile brands over the years.
For Stan Smith CLOT, Poon approached the shoe with the utmost respect by not straying too far from its clean and timeless silhouette. The black nubuck upper contrasts against metallic gold accents on the heel tab, tongue and ‘CLOT’ callout on the heel patch, giving it a sophisticated and eye-catching finish. Soft leather has been used to line the shoe, while the footbed features grip material in a repeated CLOT motif, preventing slippage for the wearer.
"I approached this shoe with the utmost respect by not straying too far from its clean and timeless silhouette. Like the original, I stuck with two colours and kept the design subtle. The exterior of the shoe is made from nubuck leather, which feels similar to suede and is resistant to wear, while the tongue and heel of the shoe is accented by metallic gold. In addition, we've added a sophisticated gold CLOT stamp along the heel side. One of the most unique attributes of the CLOT edition is the new addition of the grip material along the inside heel of the footbed, which prevents the persons heel from slipping out of the shoe when walking, especially when worn without socks. I am very excited to be part of the series!" -- Kevin Poon (CLOT)

New Adidas Consortium in Store Saturday 1.25.14

This fall adidas relaunches its iconic silhouette, the Stan Smith, following a production hiatus of the classic style. As part of the return of the shoe, adidas celebrates the Stan Smith with a limited edition release in its Consortium range.
The adidas Consortium collection is a premier tier of adidas footwear that introduces both high-end executions and 1-to-1 executions of retro styles. For the Stan Smith pack, Consortium designers kept true to the original fairway green and white colorway of the shoe but modified the materials of the shoe in four different luxury leathers.
The pack of four sneakers offers consumers versions of the Stan Smith that feature subtle cracked leather; textured ostrich; understated pebble phoenix leather; and an eye-catching reptilian upper. Each of the four pairs in the pack is sold separately, and each shoe features the same sleek shape, perforated 3-Stripes, soft leather green heel tab, and the ‘Endorsed by Stan Smith’ printed logo on the tongue. The Consortium logo is debossed on the right shoe’s heel tab, while the trefoil and Stan Smith callout sits on the left shoe.
The Stan Smith was adidas’ first court shoe to feature a leather upper, and was adopted by and eventually named for the now legendary American tennis player. Known as the ‘Gentleman of the Courts,’ Stan Smith wore the style in the 1970s to great success, including Grand Slam title wins at Wimbledon and the US Open. Over the years, the shoe’s influence extended beyond the court, becoming a staple both on the street and amongst the fashion crowd. The Stan Smith is an icon for designers, collectors and connoisseurs, and is revered for its simple, clean lines.
